Your quick win

Write down (on paper, in a safe spot) the one email address you’ll use for your business. By the end of this lesson you’ll have it ready and protected with an extra login code.

Steps

  1. Step 1: Get an app safely.

    Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play (Android). Search the app’s name. Before you tap Install (or Get), check who made it. Real apps list the real company.

  2. Step 2: Pick your business email.

    Use one you already have, or make a free Gmail just for the business. Use this same email for the lessons that follow.

  3. Step 3: Make a strong password.

    Three or four random words strung together is easy to remember and hard to guess. Use a different one for every account.

  4. Step 4: Turn on the extra login code.

    In your email account’s security settings, look for an option like “2-Step Verification” or “two-factor”. Follow the steps on screen. If the words look a bit different on your screen, that’s OK.

  5. Step 5: Have a look around.

    You can’t break anything by looking. Menus move, buttons get renamed. If something looks different from these steps, look for the closest match.
